Event Venue Website Design: High Desert Event Center

Event Venue Website Design: High Desert Event Center

By on Jan 10, 2014 in Blog, Portfolio, Web Design, Website Redesign

The San Bernardino County Fairgrounds is host to one of the biggest annual fairs in Southern California. They are very well known for the annual San Bernardino County Fair, but many people are unaware that they are an actual full service venue with several on-site properties that can accommodate everything from a wedding party to  full blown trade shows.  This year they started a rebranding campaign and have changed their name to the High Desert Event Center. Along with the name change, they also needed a new website that would let their visitors now that they are much more than just a place to host the annual fair.  Their previous website featured one main image at the top of the site that they would change when a new event would come up. The site also had three content sections below the featured image that contained static content throughout the year. After speaking with the client, we knew exactly what they needed. This new site screams EVENT VENUE! The first thing you’ll notice is the unique featured image section at the top. Normally, this section may contain a featured slider which slides or swaps out images and content with with new images and content. Those work great, but one disadvantage to that is who really waits around to view all the slides? Your website visitors expect to come to your site and find what they are looking for without having to have to wait for a slider. That’s where this four featured image section comes in. It allows the client to feature the four most important items on their site without forcing the visitor to wait for each slide. The content is always available to them. Next comes the three content columns. These content sections allow us to split the site up into categories that feature the latest news, posts, photo galleries and videos while keeping a nice neatly organized presentation. There’s no doubt that one visit to this site and you’ll know that they are a full blown event venue center and not just a place to go for the annual fair. The site just recently launched, therefore some of the current content may look repetitive, but that will not...

Website Redesign Project: Pueblo Viejo Grill Mexican Food Restaurant

Website Redesign Project: Pueblo Viejo Grill Mexican Food Restaurant

By on Oct 14, 2013 in Blog, Portfolio, Web Design, Website Redesign

Sometimes a complete website redesign is not always a good idea for your site unless you will be adding substantial value for your web visitors or if the design is very outdated. In the case of Pueblo Viejo Grill Mexican Restaurant, both were the cases. Pueblo Viejo Grill’s (PVG) original website was designed a few years back, and at the time, it only required a simple one page layout for their single Indio California location. Now that PVG has added a second location in Palm Desert, the time was right to come up with a new website design layout that would encompass what PVG was all about. And that would be, their authentic Mexican food. With a big photo slider top and center, their Mexican dishes are the stars of this new site. There’s no way that you will not want to eat at Pueblo Viejo Grill once you see all the delicious food on their website. Another must have feature that will add value for their website visitors is the blog. The blog will feature information about their dishes, events and other articles of interest for their target audience. Web content marketing will play a big hand with their new site as will social media in order to spread the word to more people about Pueblo Viejo Grill. As you can see from the picture below, the new site is a big step up from their previous website. The site will feature photos of their actual Mexican food, drinks and the restaurants, as well as an area at the bottom that lists their current special offers and events. Expect the new redesigned website to launch toward the end of November. You can view their current site at www.puebloviejogrill.com. Does your business website need a new look? Website Design for Actors: Ed Diaz – Film, Television and Voice Over

Website Design for Actors: Ed Diaz – Film, Television and Voice Over

By on Apr 10, 2013 in Blog, Portfolio, Web Design, Website Redesign, WordPress

As an actor, having a website is essential. It’s a great way to display your resume, headshots and contact information. Ed Diaz realized this and took the first steps toward having his own website by registering his domain name and signing up for web hosting himself. But the next step was unclear to him. He wanted a basic site that would allow him to tell the world who he was and how to get a hold of him, but he did not know anything about web design or developing. That’s when he contacted JL Designs. The web hosting company that he signed up with offered WordPress, which is a content management system (CMS). WordPress is a very user friendly platform, but to the beginner, all the options can be a little  confusing. We installed WordPress for him and completely set it up so that he did not have to worry about any of the settings. His budget was very small, so we helped him select and install a ready made WordPress template theme instead of creating one from scratch. Ready made WordPress templates may be fine for basic sites, but they lack the individuality of a customized theme that is designed with the customer in mind. Therefore, we would not usually recommend these ready made templates unless you’re budget does not permit for a customized site. Once the new site was setup, we loaded in basic content that the client provided for us which consisted of his resume, headshots, contact information and even a few of the movie posters from the movies he appeared in. Ed Diaz has made several appearances in Film, Television, Commercials as well as performed Voice Overs for several projects. You can view Ed’s actor website and professional resume at...
